Supported Platforms (PWS)TM General
The PWS 1.0, 2.0 and 4.0 work very well with heitml. All you need to do is to install heitml after installing the PWS. You might need to uninstall heitml if you did it in the wrong order. The heitml setup program will take care of everything else. For PWS on Windows NT, read the Internet Information Server 2.0/3.0 and 4.0/5.x pages.
PWS for Windows Me or Windows XP Home Edition
Microsoft does not support PWS on Windows Me and Windows XP Home Edition.
PWS 4.0 for Windows 95/98
PWS 4.0 download and installation
For Windows 95, PWS 4.0 is shipped with the Microsoft Windows NT Option Pack 4.0 which can be downloaded from Microsoft's Web site. You need to have installed Microsoft's Internet Explorer 4.01 before you can install PWS 4.0. Get further installation instructions from Microsoft's Web site. For Windows 98, PWS 4.0 is shipped as an add-on with the Windows 98 CD and can be installed through 'Control Panel/Software/Windows-Setup'.
Stop/Start PWS 4.0 on Windows 95/98
If there is a 'Personal Web Server' icon on the taskbar do the following:
Verifying the heitml configuration for PWS 4.0
Verify that the virtual directory /heitml2.1 exists and is mapped onto
C:\heitml2.1\htdocs\heitml2.1,,205
where "C:\heitml2.1" is the directory where you installed heitml2.1.
PWS 1.0 and 2.0 for Windows 95
PWS 1.0 or 2.0 download and installation
We recommend using PWS 4.0 or later, if you have not yet installed PWS, since there are no download links anymore to the versions 1.0 and 2.0 of PWS on Microsoft's Web site. Nevertheless, you'll find the US-English version of PWS (1.0a) on the Microsoft Project 98 CD-ROM. There were also non-English versions of PWS available like the German version of PWS.
Start/Stop PWS 1.0 or 2.0
After Installation of heitml you need to restart the Web server. This works as follows:
Verifying the heitml configuration for PWS 1.0 or 2.0 (or IIS 2.0/3.0)
1. In this step you verify the association of files with extension .hei and
the heitml application. To do this, start the Registry Editor and verify that
\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\W3SVC\Parameters\ScriptMap\.hei
is set to
"C:\heitml2.1\program\heitmlisapi.dll" (ISAPI version)
"C:\heitml2.1\program\heitml.exe /C %s" (CGI version)
where "C:\heitml2.1" is the directory where you installed heitml 2.1.
2. In this step you verify the association of files with extension .ini and
the heitml application. To do this, start the Registry Editor and verify that
\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\W3SVC\Parameters\ScriptMap\.ini
is set to
"C:\heitml2.1\program\heitmlisapi.dll" (ISAPI version)
"C:\heitml2.1\program\heitml.exe" (CGI version)
where "C:\heitml2.1" is the directory where you installed heitml 2.1.
3. In this step you verify that the virtual root /heitml2.1 exists for PWS.
To do this, start the Registry Editor and verify that
\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\W3SVC\Parameters\Virtual Roots\/heitml2.1
is set to
"C:\heitml2.1\htdocs\heitml2.1,,5"
where "C:\heitml2.1" is the directory where you installed heitml 2.1.
4. Stop and restart the server or reboot your machine.
5. If you use a proxy server, configure your browser so that no
proxy server is used for localhost.
6. Double-click the 'doc' icon in the 'RADpage with heitml' program group.
Creating new Virtual Directories
Using the PWS administrative functions you can create new virtual directories that are shown in the WWW. Note that you have to enable execute permission in these directories in order to make heitml work. © 1996-2008 H.E.I. All Rights Reserved. |
