Layout EditingRADpage is best suited to application building tasks, though there are certain page design situations where you may also find it useful. Using RADpage as your sole editing tool can also be an advantage in situations where you want to edit content while at the same time minimizing system overhead. RADpage can be run from any browser as a complete, self-contained application. Therefore, except for a browser (which you already have) you don't need to buy or install any other tools to create and/or edit heitml documents. This situation is especially useful in Intranet/Extranet and GroupWare applications. Many Web sites evolve to the point where a standard and fairly stable layout scheme has been developed. At the same time, however, the actual content of those pages may change quite frequently. In these situations it is useful to pack the standard layout into components. This means that designers and programmers should first of all occupy themselves with the task of creating whatever components are required to ensure that pages are consistently displayed in the browser with the desired appearance. Afterwards, when the time comes to add actual content to the pages, the layout-components become the primary building blocks, and RADpage becomes the tool of choice for editing them. Under this scheme, design and layout need only be done once, and the overall maintenance process for a large Web site is greatly simplified. ![]() If you normally use an HTML text editor to create pages, RADpage can become quite useful to you. It may not have all the fancy editing features you're used to, but it's a great tool for making small, quick changes to pages. If you think back to the number of times you've spotted small spelling or formatting errors while viewing a page in your Web browser, you know that it can be quite time consuming to launch your text editor, locate and load the appropriate HTML file, and scan through the page looking for the place where the problem lies. With RADpage, however, you can click on a component handle directly from within your browser, press the Source button and gain immediate access to the section of code you want to change. Since you are automatically transported to the place where you need to be, you save time that would otherwise have been spent searching through the source code. © 1996-2012 H.E.I.
