RADpage Editing Tutorial
To learn more about the RADpage application builder
try editing the following list items:
- Click on (the handle of ) a list item. The list item
component appears in RADpage. Click on the Content button.
The underlying text associated with that list item is displayed in an
editable text box. Modify the text and press the Save button to store it.
- Try to use the Preview (Netscape) or Edit (IE)
button to edit this text and notice the
difference compared to the content button.
- Add a new list item by clicking on Insert,
choosing layout, and then clicking li.
Enter some text and finally click on a handle in the browser to specify the place you want the new list item to appear. (Remember that new components are inserted in the position immediately following whichever handle you click.)
- Try adding a new list item using the quick component
selector. (This is the rightmost select box in the upper part of
the RADpage menu.) Choose li, enter some text, and place it on the page.
- Copy a list item by clicking on the list item, clicking C in the
RADpage menu, and afterwards clicking on the destination handle.
- Move a list item by clicking on the list item, clicking M in the
RADpage menu, and afterwards clicking on the destination handle.
- With version 4 browsers, moving components also works with drag and drop.
You can switch that on using the Option menu. Then your mouse cursor
to grab a component handle and drag it over to another one. Always make sure
that you drop a component into the handle where it should be placed.
- Copy and Move (but not drag and drop move) works on multiple pages. Just
open each page in its own window. Select a component in one window and
copy/move it to a handle in another window.
- Delete a list item by selecting its component handle and then clicking
the Delete button in the component display.
- Try to edit the complete list by clicking on
the brown handles using the Content,
Edit (IE only) or Preview
button. You will notice that with
Content and Preview you need to
edit the HTML source code while you can edit in
WYSIWYG mode using the Edit button.
- Try the edit button (IE only) with this text and watch this counter
component:
   You will notice that components
show up as little handles without content. This is why you usually
carefully select the part of the page to edit in WYSIWYG mode.
If you like however, you can edit the complete page
in WYSIWYG mode using the WYSIWYG function in the edit
menu of RADpage or by double click on the symbol. Be aware however, that WYSIWYG editing
mode of Internet Explorer reformats the source code, another
reason to carefully select what part is edited in WYSIWYG mode.
- You can WYSIWG edit a component in Internet Explorer by
double-clicking on one of the handles. In Netscape
you can enter preview mode by pressing the ALT key while
clicking on a handle. These functions work only if drag/drop is
enabled in the option menu.
To learn more about editing, look at the Help menu of the component
editor. To learn more about components, click on Insert and browse
through the list of available components. You should now know everything you
need to try out all layout and adaptive page components. Have fun! (Viel
Spaß!)
