Browser-Triggered WYSIWYG Editing

An alternative way to start an editor is to use the Edit button or the Edit Page menu entry of your browser. In the case of FrontPage or FrontPage Express just press the Edit button. In the case of other editors start RADpage and switch the Page Mode selector to Std Ed, HTML Ed, MS Ed, or NS4 Ed depending on the kind of editor you use. RADpage will display the page ready for editing, in another browser window. In the case of Netscape Communicator you can now use the Edit button or Edit Page menu entry, otherwise save the page to file and edit the file by opening it in the editor (see Editor-Triggered WYSIWYG Editing).

During editing, components show up as small icons. Some other editors might even not show them at all. However they stay on the page and work again after putting the page back onto the server.

After editing, the page can be put on the server as any other HTML page. So if you work locally, just save the page in the appropriate file, otherwise upload it to the server as you usually do with HTML pages. In the case of FrontPage Express and the RADpage Developer version just press save. In the case of FrontPage, save the page to the appropriate file. In the case of a server based heitml version, you must use the upload mechanism that is provided by the Web server or just use ftp.

Now you might want to use the Wysiwyg Demo Page to try it out. This page has the

  • URL http://www.radpage.com/heitml2.1/try/wysiwygdemo.hei and
  • filename /home/radpage/docroot/heitml2.1/try/wysiwygdemo.hei.

Depending on the browser/editor/publishing method combination you are using, proceed with the following steps:

ActionNetscape Navigator
or Communicator/
Composer
Microsoft Internet Explorer 4 or 5/
FrontPage Express/
Web Publishing Wizard
Any browser and Microsoft FrontPageother
1. Open the page. Click Wysiwyg Demo Page, start RADpage, switch the Page Mode selector to NS4 Ed (HTML Ed for Netscape 6 Composer and Netscape 7 Composer), and in the upcoming window edit the page by selecting Edit Document/Edit Page from the File menu. Click Wysiwyg Demo Page and edit the page by selecting Page from the Edit menu. Open the URL mentioned above in the FrontPage Editor. Open the file with the filename mentioned above in a text editor.
2. Modify the page.
3. Publish the page.

If your Web server is capable of processing File upload requests (RFC 1867) through a posting acceptor, save the page through its URL using publish.

If your server supports ftp use that.

Otherwise, save the page as a file with the filename mentioned above directly to your hard disk.

The Web Publishing Wizard that comes with IE, supports many ways of uploading. You can use a posting acceptor, ftp, or FP server extensions. The RADpage Developer version contains a posting acceptor for use on a single machine. You can also save the page as a file with the filename mentioned above directly to your hard disk. If your Web server has FrontPage Server Extensions installed, save the page through its URL using the publish functionality of FrontPage.
Otherwise, save the page as a file with the filename mentioned above directly to your hard disk.
Save the page as a file with the filename mentioned above directly to your hard disk.

Once you have done this you can click on the following link to view Wysiwyg Demo Page.
